Mission Santa Barbara

Hardships and Changes to the Missions

There were hardships and changes to the Santa Barbara Mission. Secularization was the main problem that the mission faced. Secularization is the changing of a group of peoples religious values to non religious values. Another problem the mission faced was an earthquake that occured in 1925. It basically destroyed the beautiful stone church. It was restored and completed 2 years later. The front of the church had to be rebuilt and steel-reinforced concret supports the mission.
